　This is one of the essay photos that I read today. It is really very interest, it talks about how Vietnam’s rural children life and depend on their life.

They are not getting help from the government according to all sides of human rights. So that when they reach at the age ten and above, the only thing they start doing and thinking is to go the big cities such as Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City and start working for shining shoes selling postcards or pirated books, or trinkets and then send money back home they earn in those cities. This is one of the quotes that found most interesting which says “Official statistics show that Vietnam has 21,000 street children, the bulk of them in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City”

This is a link to a picture from the great depression. Her name was Florence Owens Thompson and was photographed by Dorothea Lange in Nipomo. This is a famous photo of a mother with her children living in hard times in California. She also had to sell her tent so that her family could be able to purchase food. This picture is symbolic of the Great Depression. I always have a mental image of this lady with her children when I thinh about this day in age.

"famine the world forgot"

the photo essay i read was about famine in our world today. in particular this famine took place in Afghanistan. the camp talked about had over 80,000 people who would travel together. the first picture they were fleeing a drought. they do have a few doners who give them aid, housing, food and water but there are not many. and clearly not enought to end the starvation they are suffering. the food they normally have is plain porage and tea. the have cemeteries where they burry their loved ones who die from starvation. they have schools in these camps as well. they dont have books but it is a way to keep the children occupied. in this photo essay i learned that there is much more than famine in the united states. there is famine everywhere, in places we forget about such as Afghanistan. the thing that was most interesting to me was that they do still have schools. they dont just sit around moping about how they dont have food or shelter. thgey make they best of what they have.

So the photo essays that i have seen so far and mostly about photographs that tell a story. it could be one to ten picturs that tell the story. the picture usually have a text under the photo or a paragraph under it. with the picture being there their is a story being told and its something other are trying to tell their reader. photo essay are really not that complicated to do because you can choose any photo you like, and just tell a story about it. weather it was the time you have taking the picture or how was the picture taking. like was their an occasion why the picture was taking.

Here is the link I think you should check out. The second one is the one I went to for Battle of Colors. It doesn't have much writing with it, but it talks about the Carnival of Barranquilla and how its a unique festivity that takes place every year in February or March on the Caribbean coast of Columbia. It also tells the main essence of the carnival, the use of many colors, how many days it goes for, and where the places they go for that time of celebration. It also says that the Black African slaves had a great impact to keep these traditions. I thought it was interesting to find this small information, that I didn't know about and I liked the pictures they used to show what they do.

The march from Selma to Montgomery was a significant factor in the passage of the 1965 Voting Rights Act and marked a new and increased in civil rights reform upon political and economic issues. It was marked by considerable violent resistance, a high degree of emotional intensity for those who participated.

This photo essay is about the Chocó woman and how they are gold miners. These woman work in mud all day going through it to try and find little peices of gold. In the pictures you can see the woman working in the mud. Searching everyday for gold and platine dust, while working in the hot tropical humid climate. Dangers surround them such as infectious diesease and guerilla drug trafficing making this place pretty much lost to all humanity. I liked this photo essay because in all the pictures the woman are proud of what they are doing. Even in the hot sun and the insane circumstances they will never give up for what they are trying to do.

the reading we did on wednesday was called uncle sam and aunt samantha. it told a story about participation in the arms. back then women were not allowed to participate in the arms forces. the main idea was the differences of drafting males and females. both males and females are allowed to serve in the arm but only the males were allowed to be drafted. these people in the story were living in a world where when their sons turn 18 they have to sign a waver to be drafted, and their 18 year old daughters do not. they talked about in this story that "women interfere with esprit de corps, women dont have the physical strength, women prisoners could be secually assaulted, women soldiers would distracte male soldiers from their mission". i think this is wrong because there are women out there that Do have the physically strength and if they want to help us fight for freedom in our country then they should.

The photo essay "Mean Streets" is about twp young boys from province who came to the big city to earn money as shoe shiners. They work from 8 Am to night to make some money, and once in two weeks go back home to bring the money to their families. The most interesting and rather shocking is that those guys do not have a future. They cannot attend school because poverty is the key to withdrawing. Also the most shocking story about an eighteen year old boy who lost his family when he was nine, and had to work to support his grandparents and two sisters byhimself. Now he works as a mechanic, but still none of those children ever have a future, they do not even hope for the better life. They have what they have.

After being directly involved in this topic in the past, I'm intrigued to see a woman author who works for a liberal publication such as  Newsweek express such views on women in the military. I have experienced in the past nothing but liberal views expressing the opposite point, especially concerning war issues. I have no issues with females having combat jobs and feel that our military would not be effected by a change in a selective service law involving both men and women. The main I idea I saw in the essay was the view of double standards involved in the Selective Service Law only requiring men to sign the selective service card between the ages of 18-25 and not women. I think this quote really expresses the author's view. "My son has to register with the Selective Service this year, and if his sister does not when she turns 18, it makes a mockery not only of the standards of this household but of the standards of this nation."Anna Quindlen

This essay is somewhat strange to me, because I am not that femeninst as the author. The main idea of this essay is about diffirences of drafting men and women. Men and women are equaly serving in the army, but only men are allowed to be drafted. In my opinion she is too feminist and not right. What she thinks does not mean what the women in the army think. If the law about drafting women came to effect I do not think that women would like it. After all drafting is not a pleasant thing and I do not think even men like. On the other side not only men that are serving in the army could be drafted, but the whole population of men in the U.S. If drafting was possible for women it would mean that also all women across this country could be drafted. I do not think that entire population of women approve it, because not all women are femenist. It is also wrong for a reason of having children. If mother and father both will be drafted no one will take care of their child. 'Caroline Forell, an expert on women's legal rights and a professor at the University of Oregon School of Law, puts it bluntly, 'FAILING TO REQUIRE THIS OF WOMEN MAKES US LESSER CITIZENS'. I do not agree with this quote, because women fought for right to vote and work, but never for right to be drafted.

The Sam story was about the participation in the arms. Although women were not allowed to participate in the arms earls, but it’s good to defending on their country. While the women are represented today in virtually all fields, including the armed forces and only every man over 18 is required to register for the military. But the women are not part to sign up for the selective services. Actually this history was talking about the female that goes the arms. I agree that women are going to the war because they learning hard things, but we know that they have not physically to fight like men. Even women are not storing emotionally or physically, and I think the thing that pushes women to gate interesting of the arms.

In the essay of uncle Sam and Aunt Samantha, Quindlen is talking about how the women being treated according to defending their country and that shows how the women treated before they fought their rights.The lady in the story says that the country only forced the draft for the men ones they turn 18, while the women placed to cook for the finer stuff and stayed home such as that they didn’t had a country.but finally by the time to meet difficult situations, and you fight until you end what is behind there you will success and that is what I believe. Women fought their rights to vote, join army, work and different things, fortunately they all succeeded and won .

Today women are every where you go, they are fighting in Afghanistan and in page 471 says that “ bomb dropped killed two females in US army”. Also they are in the offices, army, navy, and the government positions.

This essay talks about the un endure treats that women faced and the rights they have according to personnel military of particular time because it is uncertain to consider the women as the main part of the military, although it is required to defend the country both male and female in a time of national emergency. Also she talks about how the women are treated according to their daily life because they lost a lot of opportunity, such as attending school or holding jobs, and the parents also faced series of new challenges that made to keep their daughters instead of sending to the armies because they worried about their daughters. It is really clear responsibility that made equal male and female likely. “It is empirical evidence that considered rationally and the women have physical strength.”

the essay talks about how women in the army weren't treated right. i think it is not only the women that are not treated right at this time it is both women and men. because of the economy and other things. mostly the essay talks about the parents of women in the army that are worried about their daugters because us we all know women are not strong physically and emotionally. In my opioin i think women should be in the army but not the same postion as men, women should be working easier jobs because as i said before women and men are not the same. i chose a quote "the legislative diretor of the rightwing group concerned women for Amercia once defended the existing regulations by saying that most women "don't want to be included in the draft."I chose this quote because besides beining draft the women are facing rap and other things and no women want to be in that positon.

I've often argued with people about this topic. I agree that women should be treated equally to men, this includes getting drafted. I would have no problem signing up for a war that I agreed with, and quite frankly, I don't agree with any of the conflicts going on now. So for me to drafted unwilling while feminists fight for equal rights, enrages me. If they want equal rights they better get the negative along with the positive ones, its not right that women could pick and choose what standards they live by. Equal rights means equal rights.

Aunt Samantha and Uncle Sam story was about how the status of womes participation in the army. Throughout history, women were not allowed to participate in wars. Even though there is a big gap between men and women joining the army, there has been an increasing amount of women joining the army. The one conroversy surrounding this topic is the fact that women are not subject to sign up for the selective services, while men are forced to sign when they reach 18. Many beleive hat if women want to close the gap and be considered as equals to men, that they hemselves must be subject to the selective services. An intresting state about this was stated as, "One out of every five recriuts in the United States Military is a female." I believe that equality shouldn't be based on capacity and capababilities, even though women aren't forced to sign up for the army, i believe they shouldn't have to because it isn't a standard in which determines equality.
Jimmy Carter was arguably one of our nations peacful presidents. He believed that it was the duty of our naion to spread peace thorughout the world and to preach democarcy to nations that are not stable. He was against war, and believed tha it we are to quick to jump to wars in certain situations. He also states, "The world has had ample evidence tha war bedgets only conditions that bedget further war". This simply means war propels even more war and we should be aware of this before we take such actions.

Unlike men who have to sighn for the selective services once they turn 18, women arent required by law. Many people see this as unequal treatment. The article said "ONe out of every five recruits in the United States military is a female." Again this show how woman are very active in joining the military, even thou they're not required to do so by law. In my opinion I actually think it is not a good idea that women join the military to fight. They should sign up, but should stay away from combat and do things like nursing and other non combat things.
Citizens of a troubled world(2002) was by president Jimmy Carter and talked about Americas role in the world and how it should promote democracy and peace. Jimmy Carter says "The objective of any who sincerely believe in peace clearly must be to exhaust every honorble recourse in the effort to save the peace. The world has had ample evidence that war begets only conditions that beget further war." Basically Carter is telling people to stand up for peace and promote it, and he is also saying that war isn't the solution, because it only leads to more violence. I liked and agreed with the thinks Jimmy Carter discussed in this essay. He believes we can all work together no matter what race or religion in order to live in a more peacful world.

the article is basically talking about we as humans dont take responsibility for our actions. there are so many companies that are not trying to make a change based on going green. i think coming up with the new refrigeraters was a food idea becuase that's the least we can do for the world. if we dont take action towards making a change , we will regret when the world fights back and something terribole happens.

it is so easy to protect our plant but we as human being, we always chose not to care about our plant. In this article it explains that our politician know how to protect our plant and to stop the company that want to desrupt the enviroment. I Learned that there are definitely good and not so good ways to get things done in this world. To be honest the only environmental problem that bothers me the most is the waste of  resources used to react to the radical activists of Green Peace. These are the people who have no sense to deal with issues in a professional manor. It's proven that the "good cop" individuals are making a much larger change with their approach than that of the "bad cops." The good cops are making strides with large companies opposed to the bad cops trying to just get noticed and could potentially put someone's life at stake with there little local demonstrations.

I leaned that our environment is in big trouble. There are companies who are cutting down many forests and messing up the environment. I also leaned there are groups who are standing up to these companies and these companies and demanding them to change their policies. If we want to preserve we have to work together and work hard to keep our planet from global warming. Now companies are changing their policies. For example Pepsi and Coca Cola produce vending machines that don’t release HFCs. HFCs are greenhouse gasses that are responsible for 17% of man maid global warming. Other companies like guitar makers are no longer using 250 year old Sitka Spruces to make their guitars. The problem that bothers me the most is how destroying forests were. We should be careful because we need them for oxygen and survival.

They don’t care about the environment but only their money is what they worry about. It’s all about the action and not about just from word of mouth. In the essay Good Cop/Bad Cop Goes Green,i have learned that climate change has alots of effects in our environment.It would be nice if the amount of pollutions we use decreases so the climate can go to its own temperature.Not alot of people care about the environment because not alot of people know about Global Warming and the people that do,don't seem to care for the animals,plant,and environment.

This essay talked about how some companies are the cause of global warming. They are so worried about making money that they don’t care that they are harming the environment. The new refrigerator thats talked about in this essay, is one that can keep our food cold but it doesn’t pollute the environment. Being a bad cop in this essay, means that you have to be strong and forceful to get people to make a change. But you also have to be a good cop. The environmental problem that bothers me the most is how people don’t recycle. It is the easiest thing we could possibly do but still 50% of us don’t do it.

what i've learned in this essay is that when you say your going to do something you have to follow it not just from word of mouth. i also learned that greenpeace refrigerators does not pollute the enviroment. since most companies pollute the enviroment they should the ones who should use ecofrienly and recycled products.

From reading this essay i have noticed alot of thing that they are trying to change to help prevent Global Warming. One of the things that they have come up with is the refrigerators that are called HFC, they really dont cause that much pollution so its very good for our enviornment. Noticing that there refrigerators are in alot of homes now days, it shows that there are some people that do care about the earth and trying to do things to help our enviornment. With the climate change occuring and people are trying to change things around so they can help it, shows that alot of people do care and there is still a good chance to save the earth for our next generation.

I think that the innovation of "green" refrigerators is a great idea. Seventeen percent of man made global warming is a result of HFC's, the chemical found in normal refrigerators. This is a huge step for our planets future, Greenpeace is in the process of persuading the major "fridge" manufactures to change their products to something that also does not use HFCs. I'm still very pessimistic about the hopeful change of our global environment though.

This article basically talks about how we are all responsible for global warming. i think its our job to fix what we have created in the first place. the world is suffering from these changes, if people dont want to take action towards changing some of the things that we normally do that causes harm to our environment. what the greenpeace has realized is that refrigeraters put out more green house gases than its trucks. so they came up with new coolers that have non HFC, this year some local bussineses and homes have started to use these coolers. there are so many ways we help this environmental emergency.

In this essay I learned that most companies are the cause of global warming with releasing gases and pollutions into the air. We need people who are hard-core to take action to save our environment. I learned that there is a new kind of refrigorator keeps food cold and does not pollute the enviroment. The envirommental problem that bothers me the most is the CO2 levels being so high. Global warming is starting to take over and i think that this new refrigorator is a great idea to try and help save the plant step by step. CO2 has slowly rose 2.1 parts per million since the global recession.

In the handout essay by Sharon Begley, that we have read for today. The author talks about how Greenpeace has changed their ways of trying to get people to change their ways concerning pollution. They used to have protests aginst people cutting down trees and polluting the athmosphere, and it was getting very dangerous. So nowadays they have changed their ways. The main thing that the author talks about is how they have invented a new kind of refrigerator, called Greenfreeze. It is a kind of fridge that does not use such chemicals as HFC, and due to that it does not polute the air. Greenpeace has already got major companies to use their technology.

What I learned from this essay was that being a affective enviromental activist means that you must be affective on the buisness side. To be able to get your point across you must be able to play the bad cop, meaning you must be willing to forcefully get your belief across and you must play the good cop, in negotiating deals with your advisary. An enviromental problem that bothers me the most is the destruction of rain forest across the world. Rain forest are not only natures beautiful sanctuary, it is also home to thousands of animals. The rain forest also plays an important part in the well being of the planet, and the destruction of it hurts us in the long run.

In the essay "Good Cop/Bad Cop Goes Green" I have learned about Kleenex company destroying boreal forests to supply their business with the wood. Also how activist groups are different today. In the early years activist groups did not attack companies directly in front of the public eye, but ntroduced better environmentally safe technology to companies. Environmentak problem that bothers me the most is the destroying of the homes of the animals. It doesn't matter whether it is a forest, or the Arctic, animals should not suffer from what we are doing.

The "Good Cop/Bad Cop Goes Green" was about some activist that are concerned about the deforestation of our worlds forest. They call them selves the Greenpeace and they are committed to helping save our world form businesses that cut down virgin forests for company's paper mills. Also in the article they talk about how some businesses have made changes to help the environment by not polluting as much greenhouse gases. These businesses are Wal Mart and guitar companies and more. As for me i think the most environmental problem that bothers me the most is pollution of water. Dumping chemicals into the sea and lakes affects so much more than one would think. Animals and water supplies for us and nature are affected when people just through garbage into the ocean and lakes.

Good Cop/ Bad Cop goes Green

I learned that there are many companies working on going green, and some are accomplishing this goal. This is happening all over the globe people are noticing the differences made throughout the making of many products. The environmental problems that bothers me the most is the globe has held off on trying to fix the climate changes, and now while were is recession people are starting to realize what is happening. Although, the recession has not cause the Carbon Dioxide to drop by much, I think it is possible, and better to make the changes now while everybody is worried about what is going to happen to the earth, if things don't change around anytime soon.
